With the settlement of the factory's operation by the BASF (Baden aniline and soda factory Ludwigshafen) in 1916, also the history of the garden city Leuna began, to-day the largest area monument in the Saalekreis. Industrial town and garden city back then, endearing unified community with modern chemical site today - 100 years after the decision for a garden city as a company housing estate, the town Leuna is celebrating the anniversary with an exhibition in the former mansion of Karl Barth, the garden city's architect.

For the employees of the Leuna-factories, attractive residential property near the production facilities was required to keep them at the location long-term. The first ground-breaking ceremony for the garden city "Neu-Rössen" which was planned by Karl Barth (1877-1951) took place on 21st January 1917. The exhibition in Barth's living rooms shows the life and work of the garden city's architect, thematises the english model of the garden city movement and over all attends to the founding history of the company housing estate "Neu Rössen" and its development until 2016.
